Best.Date.Ever

Chris and I had the most wonderful date over the weekend. For years, we've been daydreaming about biking a portion of the Katy Trail in Missouri and making it an overnight trip, and we were finally able to do it! Chris planned the entire outing, which was so nice. The weather was perfect, the kids had a great time at Grandma and Grandpa's house, and Chris and I spent 24 hours together --- just the two of us. We both felt like we were dating again. It was so wonderful to be together, doing something we both love to do. Being outside is good for the soul, and having time with your spouse and being reminded of how much fun he is and how much you enjoy being together is a gift. Many thanks to Grandma and Grandpa for all they did to help make this trip happen!

Ready to ride! We started in Dutzow and biked 30 miles to Hermann. We stayed in a very nice B&B in Hermann.

The Katy Trail used to be a railroad, so it was nice and flat and we could easily ride side-by-side.

A trail rest stop in one of the many sleepy, rural towns we went through.

Picturesque views and gorgeous fall weather!

Along the Missouri River

Chris' backpack was loaded down with bike repair gear, snacks and water. He did such a great job planning for this trip!

Crossing the bridge into historic Hermann. Thankfully, the last 3/4th of a mile was all down hill!
More of the view of Hermann

The German flag still flies proudly in this historic German community, now known for its Oktoberfest and wineries.

Sampling some wine

Wine, cheese, crackers, and live music on a patio with my best friend. Not a bad way to spend a Saturday afternoon.
